A group of ER doctors in Nashville joined together with the desire to provide a better urgent care experience for the community. They noticed people who visited urgent care clinics were rarely seen by actual physicians, the atmosphere and décor were often cold, and there was no emphasis on providing a patient-focused experience. They called Phil Pace, owner of Conseco Group, and asked him to meet them that very evening to talk through this radical start-up business venture.
They wanted to create a Physicians Urgent Care – a walk-in clinic where patients were guaranteed to see a doctor, not a practitioner or physician assistant. The physicians agreed to each take one day off a week to work at the clinic. They also found a location, a 5,000-sq. ft. space directly across from Williamson County Hospital, and had started discussions on leasing the property. Phil advised them on their next steps and options to consider before signing. The next day Conseco Group was hired as their contractor.
We worked with Physicians Urgent Care to bring their patient-focused clinic to life! Their ideas were previously unseen in the healthcare space. The build-out not only needed to meet healthcare codes, but we also needed to think outside the box to help create the relaxing and home-like atmosphere the physicians wanted for their future patients. We built six patient rooms – each equipped with a leather chair, large screen tv, and cabinets and sinks that would match the look and feel of a home. The waiting area was designed to have a very ‘home-like’ feel with leather chairs, wood grain tiles, and large flat-screen TVs in every exam room.
Today, Physicians Urgent Care sees a higher number of patients than the average clinic, seeing anywhere from 70-80 patients a day. They have now expanded to four additional locations, all providing physician care, a non-threatening environment, and a promise to always talk to the patients like a best friend. We have had the good fortune to work with them on all four projects, continuing to make their mission a reality.
